Exciting Times: Hackney Wick Town Hall in 2025

As previously reported, Hackney Wick & Fish Island Community Development Trust is partnering with local organisations Hackney Quest and Wick Award to relaunch the local Town Hall sessions.

Previously these have been regular meet-ups for residents and local stakeholders to discuss things that matter to those who live, work and play in the neighbourhood. In 2025 we’ll be developing the meetings and the wider network to include more people and wider topics.

HWFI CDT’s new Community Impact Manage, Haile, will be leading the development of these initiatives, starting with a litter pick event on March 29th.

“There’s already a powerful presence of sustainable and impactful businesses in The Loop, and I want to make use of them the best that we can to have a positive effect on our community,” he says.

“So we’re working on a litter pick event with radical upcycling pioneers Are You Mad where we're hoping to get over 100 volunteers working around the A12 and other local target areas to remove as much waste as we can to immediately improve our local environment.

“Then we’ll be holding the first Town Hall as partners on 25th March (more info to follow). Before that, I’m going to be spending a lot of time listening to gain an understanding of what people want, and what they feel will deliver most impact.

“Throughout 2025 we’ll be doing what we can to strategically build up our systems for getting things done. We’ll be connecting with even more local people and making good use of existing partners in The Loop and other workspaces, making sure everything we do has sustainability and circular economy principles built in, too.”

“For anyone who hasn’t been to a Hackney Wick Town Hall before, we want to let everyone know that it’s not about being the most qualified or experienced person. Everyone who comes along brings equal value into the room, because we all have our experiences of living in the same borough, so we all have things to contribute.

Above all else, these are events for the people and by the people. We are here to work for the community's benefit and extend a warm welcome to anyone in the community interested in helping shape a better Hackney.”
