We played an intergral role in the Hackney Wick and Fish Island successful bid in being designated a Creative Enterprise Zone by informing and sharing data, information, experience and existing research to give the bid as much our experience and insights as possible. We were also keen to use the bid to build our capacity to ensure we are representative of the wider community.

Creative Enterprise Zones are a new Mayoral initiative to designate areas of London where artists and creative businesses can find permanent affordable space to work; are supported to start-up and grow; and where local people are helped to learn creative sector skills and find new jobs. Hackney Wick and Fish Island Creative Enterprise Zone (HWFI CEZ) focuses on protecting and enhancing one of the world’s most recognisable ‘at risk’ communities of creators, including artists, makers, designers and performers working across the cultural, creative, digital and tech industries.

Funded by the Mayor London and managed jointly by LB Tower Hamlets, LB Hackney and the London Legacy Development Corporation, the HWFI CEZ works closely with local stakeholders to:

  • Promote HWFI as a top creative and cultural cluster in London

  • Support local businesses and welcome new ones, while ensuring local people benefit from creative sector growth

  • Support local infrastructure and networks to boost the resilience of the cluster.
