Introducing our new Executive Chair
We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of local resident and experienced development trust leader, Alex Russell, as the Hackney Wick & Fish Island CDT Executive Chair.
Alex is a local resident and experienced Executive, who has who has for the last four and a half years worked at Westway Trust, a self-sustaining development Trust that stewards 23 acres of buildings and land in North Kensington for community benefit.
Alex brings a wealth of experience in building and leading teams, collaborating with stakeholders and enabling communities to have ownership and determination of local assets of community value.
As well as appointing Alex, the HWFI CDT has established that its core purpose - to secure ownership of, or long-term leases on, current and future community and cultural assets, ensuring that they are inclusive of, and relevant to, our neighbourhood - and is seeking new Directors to realise this ambition.
The CDT is focused on making sure the organisation is led by local residents and those with a strong connection to the area. The CDT’s decision-makers will represent our neighbourhood, reflect a range of skills and life experience and include a plurality of views and philosophies.
Alex says:
“Hackney Wick and Fish Island is undergoing enormous changes to buildings, the public realm and spaces. Local socially motivated enterprises have come together to try and find a way to make sure that they and residents have an effective voice in shaping change and maintaining, improving and increasing the spaces and places available for local people. We are particularly interested in making sure residents who have been left out of or marginalised by the changes benefit in the future.”
