Tapestry and Maplango appointed to map the major buildings and land ownership in the local area
The Hackney Wick and Fish Island Community Development Trust (CDT) and the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) are pleased to announce that the partnership of Tapestry and Maplango have been appointed to map the major assets of the LLDC estate area, including Hackney Wick and Fish Island.
The CDT and the LLDC are working together to understand, record and map the property and land asset base in the LLDC estate and portfolio and the Hackney Wick and Fish Island area and released a tender for the work in April 2021. Six organisations responded.
Tapestry and Maplango have extensive experience in data mapping and analysis and were able to demonstrate a local knowledge and insight, understanding of the planning system and the technical know-how to develop the right system. They also train organisations to use the data and software and keep the system live.
Tapestry is a research-led urban design and planning business based locally in Hackney Wick. They provide a range of services to clients in both the private and public sectors and focus on delivering design-led solutions which are shaped and informed by people and places
Maplango are geospatial experts with extensive and in-depth experience on a range of ecological, green infrastructure, ecosystem services and estate management projects.
The mapping work will take place over the next three months and involve understanding the major site landholdings (not individual residential property) across LLDCs estate, including Hackney Wick and Fish Island. The data will provide LLDC and the CDT with vital information about who owns land and buildings.
This is the first stage of our ambition to secure and maintain accessible information on local land and asset ownership which will in turn help to democratise the planning system and create a user-friendly digital service that will enable people to engage with the built environment and planning, and understand how best to use it.
