ANISAH YAMINAH
“Being part of the SYM means I have been able to connect with other creatives and industry professionals. It’s been inspiring learning from my peers about their own creative journeys”
About Anisah
Anisah specialises in woven textiles used to visually narrate stories of nostalgia, memories and childhood moments. Blending her Bangladeshi culture and London roots plays a significant part in her creative practice, interweaving themes of identity, land and home, drawn from archival research pieces including family albums, objects and clothes. Exploring intergenerational passing down of craft, embedding sustainable approaches from a young age, this highly personal approach lets others see how she uses weave as a tool to explore her identity. Anisa is keen to continue her learning and gain experience in textiles, with a particular focus on the interior industry.
Anisah’s Mentor
Anisa was paired up with Janine Terese Kok from Freeweaver Studio, a creative weaving studio located in Deptford Market Yard.
“A major part of this programme has been working with my mentor Janine Terese Kok - especially our chats about sustainability, being eco-conscious and learning more about weaving - her generosity to allowed me to use one of her machines and gave me the opportunity to experiment with all the materials that she had, and gave me the chance to be a bit more spontaneous.”
